Philosophy
The Padlock License Manager for Java was written with several driving goals in mind:
- Be a full featured and customizable Java based licensing library
- Be cryptographically secure
- Easily and seamlessly integrate into customer applications and libraries
Using the above three goals, the rest of Padlock falls right into place. Below we’ll go into detail about the Padlock philosophy and why Padlock may be a great fit for your product.
Padlock is a full featured and customizable Java based licensing library
Every business, and even products within that business can have wildly different needs when it comes to licensing. There’s no one size fits all scheme, so a quality license management solution needs to be customizable to your requirements. Padlock was designed with flexibility in mind, to meet the needs of your particular product.
Padlock offers time limited (either hard coded or floating), feature limited, and hardware locked licenses. Padlock also allows for unlimited customized keys for limitless license options. You can use them individually or in combination to achieve the exact licensing system your product requires.
Padlock is cryptographically secure
Padlock uses industry standard RSA cryptography to protect your license files (beware of products claiming amazing and proprietary techniques). Padlock handles this internally, and the end result to you is a guarantee that all license files that pass the Padlock validator are authentic and have not been modified. The strength and security of RSA means that illicit key generators for your product are not feasible.
Padlock is easy
Padlock fulfills the above two goals, and then finishes up with something extraordinary: It packages all of this into an easy to use API. Not only is Padlock simple (and possibly downright pleasant) to use, but it offers three methods to suit your needs: A great license and key management UI, a well documented API, and even console utilities that can be run from the command line.
